We all bundled into the car of our mate and number one The Sham super fan Alan on a blistering hot summer day in July for the hour long trip to Bedford for a big Sham day out to see Weller in Bedford Park at the Bedford Summer Sessions.

Opening with the raw, heavy energy of 2008’s ‘Rip the Pages Up’, Weller and his eight-piece backing band, featuring a three-piece horn section and a relentless twin-drummer setup, took to the stage, setting the scene for a marathon two-and-a-half-hour performance.

Paul at 68 is still as restless as he ever was and with 2 Palestinian flags fluttering behind him - keeping politics and solidarity firmly at the forefront of his and all our minds.

Addressing the crowd for the first time, Weller joked: “We’ve got a very long set, so I hope you’re up for it,”

Needless to say - 2 and a half hours and many pints later, we were all probably a bit worse for wear - but it was great to see him play songs from the entirety of his back catalogue, including half a dozen Jam classics.

Our favourite?

'Man in the Corner Shop' closely followed by a glorious 'Ever Changing Moods'

I have seen him live many times over the years, but I have to admit, the show on Sunday was one of the best, if not the best, I have seen.

Here's to the next one!

The Sham are a tribute act to Rock and Roll Band The Jam.

Songs covered by The Sham are written by Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler and are imitations of their original works.

Belief is all.
